Semester 1 Final, Part 2:
For the second part of your final, you will create a "whatever you want" project, but with some requirements. You will have to use both Photoshop and Illustrator, and you CAN NOT use copyrighted images! You will also earn a point for everyday you work on the project, so there is no "finishing early." EXCEPTION: If you are missing MORE THAN ONE project, you can use the next few days as benchmark make-up. If you have not finished your t-shirt design, finish that first.

Semester 1 Final, Part 1:
ACT T-Shirt Design
You will be designing a T Shirt for the ACT Institute days at Benito Juarez. You will use Adobe Illustrator to create this design.
Your design must meet the following criteria:
You can look here for design ideas. |
CPS Meme
NOTE:
If you have more than one missing assignment, you can use the next two days for benchmark make-up, and will be excused from this assignment. |
Knowing the weather outside was going to be bad, I frequently checked the news and social media to see if CPS was going to cancel classes on Monday. What I saw on Twitter was especially funny: in the hours before CPS announced classes were going to be cancelled, students had been posting bleak, impossible, and apocalyptic pictures with the quote '"CPS be like "Classes will resume..."'
You will create your own meme in Photoshop of what would need to happen in order for CPS to actually cancel school. |
Combining your Logo and Costume
The last step is to combine your logo and costume design into one stylish document.
Open the tutorial below for a step by step guide on how to do so:

Superhero Logos
You will be creating a superhero alter-ego, complete with an original logo and costume.
On weebly, answer the questions to the right using a "paragraph" element. You can copy and paste the questions into the paragraph element, or just number your answers. When you are done with the questions, create 10 thumbnail sketches (rough sketches) of your superhero logo in Illustrator. When you are done with the sketches, take a picture of them with Photobooth, and post the jpeg under the questions in weebly. This is due at the end of class today. |

Below are examples of my sketches and designs for my superhero alter-ego, Diploma Girl.
Superheroes, Part 1
If you could be a superhero, who would you be? What would be your super power? Your mission?
Your assignment today is meant to get you thinking about it. Use the links below to answer the questions on your weebly site. You can copy and paste the questions, but you can NOT copy and paste your answers!

Logo Design
A logo is a graphic mark or emblem commonly used by companies, organizations and even individuals to aid and promote instant public recognition.
Logos are either purely graphic or are composed of the name of the organization. The logo itself, whether it includes the name of the company or not, can be composed of text, an image or symbol, or a combination of both. |
Click below to open up a tutorial for how to create a logo from text in Illustrator (from the demo on 12/3)
|
Steps for TEXT ONLY LOGO:
Step 1: Do ten different sketches combining your initials in different ways. You can do this on paper. Step 2: Choose one of the five designs above to render in Illustrator. Make five versions of this design using different fonts. Keep it black and white. |
Steps for IMAGE ONLY LOGO:
Step 1: Do ten different sketches of an image only logo. Think about what symbols you can use to represent yourself. You can do this on paper. Step 2: Choose one of the above sketches, take a picture with Photobooth, open in Illustrator and trace the sketch. Step 3: Keep your lines smooth. Your final logo should be more of a SHAPE than a line drawing. Keep it black and white! |
Steps for TEXT and IMAGE LOGO:
Step 1: Do ten different sketches combining your initials (or name) and an image in different ways. You can do this on paper. Note:You cannot just copy and paste your text logo and your image logo and put them together. Think of unique ways to combine the two. You can use your image logo, but you will have to change it slightly to make it work with text. Step 2: Choose one of the above sketches, and do five variations of that design. Step 3: Choose one of the five designs above to render in Illustrator. Use the text method (see tutorial above) for the letters, and draw the image part with the pen tool. Keep lines smooth! |

Molly Bang Project
Your next project will be based on a fear you have. We will use simple shapes combined with a limited color palette to create our composition.
You can freehand draw with the pen tool and shape tool, or I can scan a paper sketch for you to work from. Make sure you create some depth, either with linear perspective or overlapping shapes and relative proportions. If you cant think of something you are afraid of, below are examples of common fears: |

Tessellations
Open a new Letter size document, landscape orientation.
Draw a 200pt by 200pt square. |
Lock the square layer, make a new layer.
Use the pen tool to draw a line across the top of the square, from corner to corner. Click on the black arrow tool. Hold the OPTION key, click on the line, drag to the bottom of the square. |
Lock the second layer, make a new one.
Use the pen tool to draw a line on the left edge of the square, from corner to corner. Click on the black arrow tool. Hold the OPTION key, click on the line, drag to the right edge of the square. |
Turn off the square layer (click on the "eye").
Unlock the second layer. Select all of the lines and go to Object > Path > Join |
Use the pencil tool to add details, drawing what you "see." It will be weird. That is okay!
|
Select all.
Go to Object > Live Paint > Make. Choose ONE COLOR to paint in the drawing. You can change the saturation and value (the S and the B). |
Hold the option key, and drag the drawing to the left (use the black arrow tool).
|
Use the eyedropper tool to select a color in your drawing.
In the color menu, select "Compliment." Fill in the drawing on the left with that color. You can change the S and the B, but NOT the H. |
Hold the option key and click and drag to repeat the drawing so that it fills the document.
Alternate the colors. |
