Day of the Dead
You will be creating a project for Day of the Dead.
Begin by making a drawing that is Day of the Dead themed... think calacas, sugar skulls, ofrendas, etc. DO NOT just make a drawing of the grim reaper. The drawing must be a line drawing... NO SHADING! Once you have completed the drawing, I will make a digital copy and you will use Illustrator to render the drawing. NO COPYING!!! You can use the internet for inspiration, but the finished drawing must be your own original artwork. Typography
Typography is the art and technique of arranging type in order to make language visible.
You will be creating a typographic poster using 10 - 15 words from a favorite song or quote. Use ONE font ONLY -but you can change size, italic, bold, all caps, small caps, etc. THREE colors plus a background color US Paper size (8.5 x 11) THINK ABOUT:

You will be trying to create consistent, even margins throughout the document.
To do so, you will likely need to change the space between letters, words, lines of text, and the edges of the paper, as well as the height and vertical position of individual letters. Most of this can be done using the options in the Character toolbox, shown to the left. |
Typography Benchmarks:
- Even spacing on margins (there is a border around the edge of the paper)
- Even spacing between lines of text
- Even spacing between words
- Words are made even in height (you have changed the height of an individual letter, or the vertical position of an individual letter)
- Only one typeface used (can change bold, all caps, size)
- Some words change directions (ex:read down to up, and left to right)
- Only three colors used (including back ground color)
- Appropriate words are emphasized (what is the meaning of your quote/lyric?)
- Background has a color
- Minimum of 10 words
